National Geographic Explorer and award winning photographer and videographer Anand Varma joins the podcast to talk about his new book "Invisible Wonders: Photographs of the Hidden World", as well as his amazing new storytelling studio "Wonder Lab".  During our conversation Anand tells me about his life long dream of one day becoming a scientist that led him to Berkeley to earn a degree in integrative biology and a chance meeting with fellow National Geographic photographer David Littschwager that would alter the course of his life and open up a new form of scientific exploration that Anand had never dreamed was possible.  Anand's beautiful integration of science and art can make even the ugliest subject matter worthy of a gallery show and we discuss the evolution of the aesthetic he is known for today, what is was like working on his book, how photographing parasites kickstarted his career, why he decided to delete all his social media accounts, and the advice he gives to other creatives out there trying to build a career.

Photographer Rob Hammer joins the podcast to talk about his newest book "Roadside Meditations" and how he went from a kid growing up in upstate New York with absolutely no idea of what he wanted to do with his life, to working odd jobs wherever he could get them, to moving out west and slowly falling in love with photography, to building a portfolio that would have him shooting some of the biggest named athletes in the world for companies like Nike, to finally realizing that his true passion was being on the road working on his many personal projects.  During our conversation Rob talks about how his idea of success shifted from the goal of big paychecks and the validation of others, to spending time chasing the images and stories that truly inspire him and what it looks like to balance his time with the work that pays and the work that inspires, and how those two can sometimes come together as one.  We also talk about how he first fell in love with the American roadtrip and the inspiration and lessons he constantly finds from not only the people and places he experiences, but from the introspection that inevitably comes from long hours of traveling alone.  Lastly, we discuss the process of putting together a book, how he has begun pitching documentary stories to commercial clients, and the advice he gives to others chasing their own creative journey.

Commercial photographer/director and co-founder of "A Collective Us" Kate Rolston joins the podcast from her Denver studio to talk about her journey from the advertising agency world of New York where she worked on campaigns for companies like Canon, to getting hired by Tyler Stableford and making the move to Colorado where she had the opportunity to be a creative partner on a lot of big commercial projects, to finally going out on her own and finding success in both the worlds of still and motion commercial and editorial work.  During our conversation Kate talks about growing up in New Jersey with an early love of creative expression, not only in the form of drawing and painting, but as a ballet dancer with the expression of movement and the discipline it offered.  After attending college in Boulder, CO she would pursue a career in the advertising world of New York City, but soon fell in love with her own creative pursuits which would eventually lead her all the way back to Colorado and create the career she is known for today.  Kate and I discuss her belief in herself as an artist and how that gave her the confidence to trust enough in her own vision to leave a secure creative job, what it's like as a new mom to try and balance a work life with a family life, how she pulls the most inspiration from taking long drives with the music on, having gratitude for clients that trust in you to help achieve their vision, and the advice she gives to others chasing their own creative goals.

Photographer, musician, writer, and all around lover and teacher of the creative process, Reuben Radding joins the podcast to talk about his amazing journey from touring musician, to struggling novelist, to street and documentary photographer, and how his love of the practice has been his saving grace in a medium that can sometimes be overtaken by the pursuit of money and recognition.  During our conversation Reuben talks about his younger years growing up in the suburbs of DC as the son of two musicians, and the turmoil inside the home that would send him on a path away from the facade of everyday existence and into the music and art scene of the DC area.  After dropping out of high school at the age of 16 and starting to the tour the south with his band, Reuben ended up making the move to his now home of New York City in the 80s where he continued to pursue his passion for making music.  After a while, he decided he wanted to focus on his new love of writing, and ended up moving west to Montana and then on to Seattle, finally ending up back in New York and picking up a new creative outlet of photography which would soon overtake the others as the expression that most know him for today.  When he's not exhibiting his work across the country, or teaching workshops, you can find Reuben wandering the streets of his beloved NYC, continuing to focus on the practice, and as passionate about photography today as when he first picked up the camera.
